Send a Greeting Card to Celebrate National Boss Day 2009

http://image3.examiner.com/images/blog/EXID13006/images/carell_boss_0210.jpgIt does seem a bit ridiculous to celebrate National Bosses Day seeing as how we have all been forced to take pay reductions and furlough days. Still, today may be a good day to do a little sucking up, Happy Bosses Day! October 16 is your opportunity to thank your superior for being kind and fair (or at the very least, not letting you go…) throughout the year.

The day first made it onto our calendars in 1958. Patricia Bay Haroski was an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Ill. and registered the holiday with the US Chamber of Commerce. It turns out that Patty was not only an appreciative employee, but daughter as well. Patty worked for her father and noticed the struggles he experienced day to day and wanted to show her appreciation. Four years after Patty registered the day Illinois Governor, Otto Kerner, observed National Bosses Day in 1962. Almost 50 years later the day is recognized across the country and in various parts of the world.

It’s not too late to send a card! American Greetings and 123Greetings both offer free ecards.
