Missouri Sex Offenders no longer in the clear

Missouri sex offenders who were once exempt from registering are now required to by federal law.

Anyone who has been convicted of a sex crime must now register on the sex offender list, no matter when the offense occurred. Our Fact Finder Team stopped by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office to see how local law enforcement is dealing with the reversed status,” said Operations Chief Bill King.

“We got notice from the state that we had 13 sex offenders that were living in the county. Each one of those was sent a letter by the state that they were required to register. I also made an attempt to go to each address to make sure those people had notice,” said King.

Of the 13 offenders, two were deceased, one was in federal prison, one was in the Adair County Jail, one had moved out of the county, and the rest have registered on the sex offender list.

if you are an exempt offender or know the whereabouts of someone who is, you are asked to contact your local sheriff’s department. Or you can call the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 1-888-767-6747.
