The e-file program is a quick way to file returns and get a refund from the IRS.

As part of the Internal Revenue Service e-file program one can fill forms, as per income qualification on the Free file program, or use the Free file fillable forms. This year, one qualifies for the Free file program if one had an adjusted gross income that is $57,000 or less. This group reportedly includes 70 per cent of the income tax return filers.

For the Internal Revenue service free file program, one can fill returns by first visiting the link www.irs.gov/freefile on the IRS website. There one can choose from upto 20 tax calculation programs like TurboTax, TaxAct and H&R Block. From here, the simple tax calculation software programs would ease those filing returns through a question and answer format, after which one can file the return elecrronically or print it and mail it to the Internal Revenue service.

Those not qualifying for the Free file program can file their returns through the Free File fillable forms which can then be submitted to the website.

Those using Tax calculation programs will be helped a lot, as many changes have come up due to the various tax breaks that were put in place by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These tax softwares would also ensure that one does not miss a single item and maximise their tax credits.

Some of these Tax software websites offer free help and in case of TurboTax and CompleteTax, one can also get a free version of the tax calculation program which would help in filing simple returns. However, those who wish for itemized returns would have to purchase them.

The best reason for using e-file returns is that one can get a refund in about 10 business days, while with paper returns, on has to wait for at least four to six weeks.

However, those who have or are planning to take the $8,000 or $6,500 homebuyer's credit, would have to file their return on paper, due to additional documentation that is required.
