“That’s convenience,” is the Gas America slogan, and that’s exactly what the station provided, along with a little luck to loyal customer Drena George on Thanksgiving.
George buys Hoosier Lotto tickets every Sunday and Thursday at Gas America on West Commerce Road in Daleville. However, her lucky ticket, which made her and her husband $6.1 million dollars richer, was free.
George woke up at 3 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning to prepare the day’s meal and woke her husband, Albert, with the news after she realized they had hit the jackpot according to a press release from the Hoosier Lottery.
“When I went to wake Albert up, he thought I had dropped the turkey and needed help,” Drena George said. “And then he didn’t believe me when I told him we won the lottery.”
The jackpot totaled $14 million, but the couple walked away with $6.1 million after deciding to take the cash option.
Unfortunate news followed the celebration, though, when Albert George’s father died Monday morning. Albert George said he didn’t have the chance to tell his father about the prize.
“He’s looking down on us saying, ‘Why didn’t this happen a few years ago?’” Albert George said.
Newslink Indiana caught up with the Georges this afternoon, but they politely declined to comment on their winnings. Albert George said he and his wife were on their way to the airport, but will speak with NewsLink Indiana tomorrow.
